Core mission:
The Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), situated in Grenoble, France, is Europe's leading research facility for scientific research using neutrons. Every year, we host over 2000 visits by scientists, who come to the Institute to carry out world-class research. Within the ILL's Building and Site Maintenance Service (SAE), which is responsible for performing maintenance and minor new work on technical installations (outside the reactor), you will join the metalworking team, which comprises a head of workshop and one skilled worker.
Your tasks:
You will provide support to the teams working in the Building and Site Maintenance Service. In the framework of your duties, you will be responsible for:
- Producing and/or modifying sheet-metal and mechanically welded assemblies and mounting these assemblies on, or adapting them to, the experimental areas in the guide halls.
- Performing routine sheet metal and fitting work in the context of the long reactor shutdown projects.
- Managing procurement, stocks of small supplies and equipment orders.
Your profile:
You must have a Level 3/4 qualification (T levels, HNC, higher apprenticeship or equivalent) in metalwork or similar, and knowledge and/or experience of the following:
- Performing work on black steel, stainless steel, aluminium, copper and plastic.
- Proficiency in various welding processes: Arc, TIG, MIG, semi-automatic, oxyacetylene and braze welding.
- Skills in profiling, machining and manufacturing parts.
- Handling and assembling prefabricated parts.
- Reading and interpreting drawings and sketches, taking measurements, and manufacturing simple parts.
A category B driving licence is required for this post.
You must have a meticulous and organised approach your work and be able to work independently as well as part of a team. You are recognised for your adaptability and interpersonal skills.
